Goal of this conference
The “digital divide” refers to the wide disparity in
access to, and use of, technology in our society; purportedly, this divide is
widening. The equivalent of a “digital divide” exists between
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other higher education
institutions (HEIs) in technology assets, accessibility, and use. As other HEIs
advance toward robust technology standards such as the emerging Internet 2, the
divide between HBCUs will widen unless plans are made otherwise.
The goal of this conference is to help accelerate the pace
of closure of this “digital divide" by (1) managing technology
productively; (2) accelerating advanced campus technology including Internet2
and beyond; (3) accelerating both technology infusion and transfer; (4)
exploiting technology for learning enhancement through links to secondary
schools, and (5) other strategies.
Although the
conference is targeted to top HBCU management, the target audience is intended
for all management levels, faculty, staff, especially HBCU students
-- who will become future technology managers -- and other stakeholders.
