History of the Jackson State University Industry Cluster

The JSU Industry Cluster Program brings together business corporations, government agencies, and the college administration to improve the quality of education for its students.  The primary purpose of the Cluster Program is to provide an opportunity for education and industry to pool talents and resources.  This reciprocal effort improves the curriculum content at JSU, thereby allowing for a highly trained and qualified personnel source from which businesses and industry can draw.

The Cluster concept had its beginning in 1967 under the auspices of the Alliance for Progress.  During the following year, the National Alliance of  Business (NAB) adopted the Cluster Program as a part of its activity.  The late President Lyndon B. Johnson was the brain trust for NAB and the Cluster.

In 1968, the Jackson State University Cluster was started by President Emeritus John A. Peoples, Jr., an enthusiastic faculty, and industry representatives.  The Cluster meets biannually during the fall and spring semesters to investigate problems, seek solutions, and to develop and implement programs of corrective action.
